A city of almost 5,000 people, West Columbia has the charm and easygoing lifestyle of a rural community, but is an easy hour's drive from Houston and all of its amenities.

Nearby Lake Jackson (22 mi) with a population of 27,000, is the nearest "large" town. Home of Brazosport College, you will find the nearest large shopping mall (Brazos Mall), restaurants and nightlife, including several movie theatres. If you're looking for "big city" activity, sporting events, performing arts, and more, Houston is only an hour's drive from the Resort. We're far enough from Houston to get away from it's urban atmosphere- but close enough to be an easy drive for Resort guests.
West Columbia & Brazoria County Museums and History
West Columbia served as the First Capitol of the Republic of Texas in 1836, so it is only fitting that The Columbia Historical Museum be located at the site of the First Capitol of the Republic of Texas. Exhibits include artifacts ranging as far back as the Texas Revolutionary Period. The Brazoria County Historical Museum, located in Angleton, offers a national award-winning Austin Colony exhibit that chronicles the birth of the independent Texas nation. Experience 1850s colonial life at the Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historic Site (2.2 mi). The 66-acre Plantatioin offers tours that include interpretations of the historical plantation house and grounds.
Brazoria County Parks, Birding, Trails and Fun!
Brazos Bend State Park (16 mi) is a scenic haven for birdwatchers and wildlife observers. For stargazers the George Observatory is located within the park. More than 270 species of birds have been sighted here. Hiking and biking trails meander through the park's varied terrains, and several lakes offer excellent fishing. Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge (27 mi) includes 43,000 acres of coastal estuarine and coastal prairie habitat, and supports over 425 wildlife species and is a haven for more than 300 bird species.
Enjoy Nearby Gulf Beaches
Bryan Beach State Park (32 mi) is located near Freeport. This is one of the few Texas beaches left that you can still drive on without having to pay a fee. Fishing, beach combing and surfing are just a few of the activities you can enjoy at this secluded beach park.
